An Important Message To Our Community About Hurricane Irma

Dear Family Member, Responsible Party, Signature Community;

I am happy to report that all Golfcrest residents and staff have safely returned home this afternoon from our Palm Beach location!

Full power is restored to 100 percent of all Signature HealthCARE communities. Phone service has returned to most locations, however if you experience difficulty reaching one of our communities, please do not worry. We continue to work diligently to restore all phone and internet service.

In closing, I want to thank you for your prayers and your patience. Weather history was made in Florida 9 days ago; across the entire state, Floridians experienced something epic; Hurricane Irma.

An important message to our community about Hurricane Matthew

An important message to our community, stakeholders, residents, and family members:

We are closely monitoring Hurricane Matthew as it approaches the state of Florida, and our facility has taken the necessary precautions to prepare for the impending impact of the hurricane. We have initiated our emergency plans and have prepared for the storm in coordination with state and local officials. The health, safety, and well-being of our residents and stakeholders remain our top priority. We have adequate storm supplies on hand and have no plans to evacuate at this time.

Blessing of the Hands

gulfport hand blessing

In honor of CNA Appreciation Week, we had a unique opportunity to bless our CNAs in a special way. CNAs have the toughest job in our business–being on the frontline of care for our elders.

The demands physically, emotionally, and mentally can take their toll on our beloved caretakers, so today we had a dual privilege of washing and blessing our CNAs hands. As Jesus prepared his disciples for ministry, He washed their feet to convey the act of humility and to set an example of serving others. The CNAs received prayer as we washed their hands and anointed them with oil to send them forward in serving our elder community.

National Tortilla Chip Day

gulfport tortilla

Gulfport residents and staff took part in National Tortilla Chip Day in February by sampling 12 different dips made by our stakeholders. Our grand prize winner was LaShunda Wilson who delighted our tastebuds with her salsa queso dip. February was also Black History month, during which we engaged stakeholders with trivia questions. Whoever gave the right answer got a prize! February was a great month of stakeholder engagement!

Celebration of Life Service

Gulfport Rehabilitation honored 17 former residents this week in a Celebration of Life service held at our facility. Residents and staff gathered in remembrance to share stories, sing, and light candles for each of the departed. We have a special tradition at Gulfport–the resident’s name is written on a seashell and placed inside a decorative glass jar. This jar depicts the community we have all shared together and the unity of our spirits that are forever connected in memory.

Gulfport celebrates Global Day of Prayer and National Nursing Home Week

We had a small group this year for Global Day of Prayer, but these are my faithful girls who love to pray with me.

After our global companywide prayer ceremony, we took our bubble wands to pray. Rather than release balloons, we found another option as a practical expression of prayer. I let the girls know that our breath is important because God breathed it into us.

So, because we have personal prayer requests deep in our own hearts, each time we exhaled into the bubble wand, we release that silent prayer through our breath. We incorporated the ‘power of the ask’ and to see what God will do if we just simply continue to submit our needs, however great or small.

Also, in recognition of National Nursing Home Week, we had a different theme each day this week. Today happens to be Nerd Day.

Our Global Day of Prayer celebration was very well received, and what an incredible blessing to be able to gather at work to pray together. I am so thankful for that privilege!

Spirituality LearnFEST draws crowd for virtual learning conference

SpiritLearnFest_Banner_625w

More than 1,000 Signature staff members registered for the recent Spirituality LearnFEST, a virtual learning conference that encouraged participants to consider the impact of spirituality, if fully activated, in a long-term care environment.

And that number doesn’t even include the many who joined in groups, in offices, breakrooms and wherever there were TVs or computers at Signature centers across 10 states to view the live broadcast. The event featured sessions that tied spirituality to numerous aspects of long-term care and health care, from clinical care to legislative involvement and the impact of spirituality in the workplace.

Signature’s urban centers celebrate Chinese New Year with multi-facility competition

Signature’s Urban Segment has been highlighting different cultures since September 2014 in the Quality of Life department. Every month a country is celebrated with weekly activities representing that specific country. Staff and residents learn about the culture which includes, crafts, food, language, famous landmarks, and learning about the customs and traditions.

China was highlighted during the month of February. Urban Indiana, Urban North, and Urban South celebrated the Chinese New Year on February 19, 2015. Each community in Urban created their own version of the Chinese dragon for their celebration. The top two dragons in each sub-segment were the winners!  The residents are still talking about the celebrations held at their communities.
